UV Coatings Empowering the Re-revolution of NA Manufacturing

9:30 am – 10:15 am Intermediate

Specialized booth conditioning and part curing make the finishing process one of the most energy intensive and carbon-emitting processes in manufacturing. Understanding novel processes and technologies are critical to being able to realize a step-change in carbon emissions reductions in this space. This presentation will increase awareness and educate on the emerging technology of an industrialized dry film decoration process utilizing out-mold lamination and how it can help manufacturers reduce energy use and carbon emissions at their production facilities while maintaining Class-A finishes on stamped or molded parts. We will review dry film application types and the challenges associated with each, the basic layout of a coatings line for serial production using out-mold lamination, specifications of the film materials, and the best use cases for film. We will also review estimates for the reduction in energy consumption, reduction in carbon emissions, and reduction in operating cost of a dry film line compared to a traditional wet spray-and-cure system.

Dry Film Application - A Low Carbon Alternative to Sprayed and Cured Finishes
