Overview

Newly Engineered, Novel Coil Storage Systems: Hot Coils and Over the Road Coil Securement

9:00 am – 10:30 am Intermediate

More than 4-million highly engineered, polymer coil storage blocks have been in use since 1985 without a single reported mechanical failure. Demand from users that these systems be modified to accommodate coils at elevated temperatures and for over-the-road use. This paper discusses the fundamental design and use of the original systems and changes that have been engineered and field tested to allow for storage of hot coils and to the Coil Transport Cradle to improve safety and securement for hauling coils on flatbed trailers.
