Pores and Spatters reduction for Copper and Aluminium Laser Welding with MPLC Beam-Shaping Solutions
One of the key challenges in the EV sector is laser welding of Copper and Aluminum, materials that are inherently more difficult to weld and require strict quality standards, such as minimal porosity and spatter formation. To address this, advanced beam shaping modules have been developed utilizing Multi-Plane Light Conversion (MPLC) technology. This technology enables precise and flexible beam shaping through two integrated mirrors positioned between the collimation block and either a focusing block or a scanner. MPLC technology stands out by offering a depth of field that is four times greater than traditional dual-core technologies, significantly simplifying the welding process. The presentation will highlight the advantages demonstrated when welding real-world components, such as battery modules, busbars, and hairpins. It will also include X-ray analyses of the resulting welds, alongside simulations showcasing various beam shapes and their impact on the welding process.
