A great deal of development in automation of metal fabrication processes focuses on cell structure, robotic movement and material inflow and outflow. Advances in the details of how workpieces are actually gripped, manipulated and monitored in real-world applications, however, often lag developments in “big picture” automation progress. This session describes some real world challenges and corresponding solutions to this critical but often overlooked aspect of sheet metal fabrication automation.
